Productivity Tip for Consultants to Get More Done Now

Productive Consultants

You may have heard what I’m about to tell you before. But I know that few have actually implemented this technique in their lives and business.

When you create your plan for the week, make sure that you’re putting priority on the actual items that when completed will help you get closer to your goals.

I want to help you make this week one of your most productive weeks yet. So that you can look back at the end of the week and think, “Wow! I got so much done this week.”

We both know that’s a great feeling. The sense of accomplishment and progress that comes from getting things done.

So before I share with you this very powerful technique, let me first give you a word of advice.

Avoid These Items

Ticking off a bunch of ‘to-do’ items on your list is great. However, if those items aren’t actually going to help you move your business forward, you’ve really just wasted your time and energy.

When you create your plan for the week, make sure that you’re putting priority on the actual items that when completed will help you get closer to your goals.

What does a priority item look like?

You might need to update your company logo because it looks a bit old.

Or in the same time it would take you to do that, you can create a newsletter or 3 emails to go out to prospective clients.

Here’s how it goes. Today (or if it’s late in the day tomorrow) drop 90% of the items on your to-do list. Yes, drop them. Delay them. Move them into another pile.

If your main goal is to ‘appear’ professional to your clients and you have plenty of existing business, than the first item could be a good fit.

But if you need to get more clients your focus needs to be on the second item.

Power Technique for Productivity

Now let me share with you the extremely simple and often overlooked technique to help you get more done.

Here’s how it goes. Today (or if it’s late in the day tomorrow) drop 90% of the items on your to-do list. Yes, drop them. Delay them. Move them into another pile.

Forget about Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram and Pinterest. Don’t touch the television remote. And don’t get close to typing ‘Youtube in your browser’s address bar.

And your email inbox? Don’t open it. If a client has an urgent matter they can pick up the phone and call you.

Oh, and don’t pick up your phone. If it’s that urgent of a matter they’ll keep calling you or they’ll leave you a message.

Now, here’s the technique…

You’ve closed your door. All potential distractions are out of your way.

Look at your list and review your goals. And ask yourself, “What is the one thing that I can do right now that will help my business move forward and will get me closer to my goals?”

As you’re reading this you’re probably getting an idea of what that is, right?

Okay, now go do it.

Yes, that’s it.

Take 2-3 hours away from distractions and focus solely on getting that big, scary priority item done once and for all.

This is the productivity technique the most successful people use. From authors and athletes, to business executives and others at the top of their game.

They give complete focus to one thing at a time and they always focus on their priority items first.

Do this now. Don’t delay. You’ll be pleased you did.
