The “MOST” Powerful Success Principle “Ever”

Success-Principle-Powerful

I stretched both my legs out. Took a deep breath and ran past the houses before reaching the main road.

The street was empty. I could hear a whirring sound in the distance, probably from the highway in the distance. But the birds were chirping all around me.

All the recommendations, best practices, books, and podcasts preaching the BEST way to do something often don’t tell you the MOST important part – just because they have found one way is best for them, doesn’t mean it’s best for you.

As I reached the intersection I saw a few kids in uniforms heading to an early morning sports practice.

It was a few minutes before 6am. I kept running and soon reached the river.

I took a quick right turn to get off the road. Running on the dirt path felt so much better than on concrete.

To my left the river. To my right Japanese rice fields and fruit trees.

I couldn’t help but think how easy it would have been to stay in bed “just a few minutes longer.”

I’m sure you’ve had that feeling, right?

Could They All Be Wrong?

But sleeping in a bit isn’t good for you, they say. At least that’s what all the ‘best-practice’ articles are saying…that the only way to succeed is to get up early.

Or to write in a journal in the morning. Or to ________ (you fill in the blank).

Are they wrong? No.

Could all those articles and books possibly be giving us the wrong information? Yes and no.

Here’s the reality. There is no right or wrong.

If you want to stay in a bed a bit longer, go ahead.

We can toss around blame and play the game. But when we are honest with ourselves there is only one person that can take responsibility for our happiness and success – and that my friend, is ourselves.

If you want to get up at the crack of dawn to get more done, power to you.

All the recommendations, best practices, books, and podcasts preaching the BEST way to do something often don’t tell you the MOST important part – just because they have found one way is best for them, doesn’t mean it’s best for you.

If you truly want to be happy and successful, you must realize that life is about choices.

If you choose to sleep in a bit longer, and that makes you happy, great.

If you choose to sleep in longer and you end up feeling awful about it later that day, not so good, right?

The Critical Component

It’s YOUR choice. No one else’s.

We can all find reasons why something is working for us or isn’t.

We can toss around blame and play the game. But when we are honest with ourselves there is only one person that can take responsibility for our happiness and success – and that my friend, is ourselves.

This is all bouncing around in my mind as I’m running through the Japanese countryside.

The ‘pain’ of getting up early is quickly erased as the sweat runs down my forehead.

I enjoy an amazing sense of clarity and energy with every step I take.

I wouldn’t have felt this way staying in bed. I would have missed the birds chirping and seeing all the ducks and an amazing river otter (that I hear many locals have never seen).

But if I choose next time to stay in a bed a bit longer, that’s a choice I make.

How to Reach the Success You Want

Success comes from having a clear target that you work towards.

One that you take action on consistently to reach.

Make a choice that will lead you to take the actions that will get you the result you want.

That action comes from making a decision. From making a choice.

There is no right or wrong. There only is the result from the choice you make.

If you don’t like the result you’re seeing, change your actions.

Want to be a better consultant? Study and implement more.

Want to attract more clients? Have a clear marketing strategy and plan that you actively work on.

Want to get more done? Focus on high value tasks and create time to get them done.

Make a choice that will lead you to take the actions that will get you the result you want.

If you don’t like it, change it.

I couldn’t help reading this! You have written it in such an amazing manner. I agree with you that there is no right or wrong way. What works for me may not work for some else. We have to understand ourselves and make the choices that best suit us.
